<head>Historical/Biographical Note</head>
<p>Caroline Randolph was born in Sharon, Connecticut on June 20, 1798.  Her father, Joseph Riley, died when she was two years old thus her formative years were spent with relatives in Connecticut, Vermont, and Massachusetts.  She married and lived in Sharon for some time before moving to Ohio in April 1834.  </p>

<p>Her diary consists in large part of her religious views and search to live a "good life."  A number of ministers are mentioned by name.
