Using CONSULS to Locate Media Items

You may use the CONSULS online catalog to find media items owned by the WCSU Libraries. Public CONSULS terminals are available at both the Ruth A. Haas Library (Midtown Campus) and the Robert S. Young Library (Westside Campus).

Searching by Title, Author (Artist) or Subject

If you know the exact title, author (artist) or subject of the media item you wish to find, a search of the CONSULS online catalog will reveal whether the Haas Library owns a copy of the item. For example, to find a videocassette of the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, select TITLE at the CONSULS Main Menu. Then type: hamlet and press the RETURN or ENTER key. CONSULS will respond with a list of all the works owned by the CSU Libraries whose titles begin with the word "hamlet." At the title list, click on the LIMIT/SORT button at the top of the screen. Find the option "Material Type" and choose "Video." To LIMIT to items owned by WCSU, choose WCSU from the Location option, also located under LIMIT/SORT.

Searching by Keyword

Choose KEYWORD SEARCH from the main CONSULS menu. Enter a word or a combination of words (i.e. Miles Davis AND performance) in the searching box. Move to the MATERIAL TYPE option box and choose the medium you are seeking (video, CD, DVD, etc.). Move to the LOCATION option and choose WCSU from the choices listed. Click on SEARCH.
