Other Photo Archives

Here are some examples a Photo Archives from other schools and institutions. I'm sure we can get (steal) ideas and gain some understanding of how what works what we like.

Note: If this page gets busy we may need to move each site to a separate page so that comments about the site can stay together. To make a new page when you add your comment just run a few words together like this: ThisIsATest? to make a new page and then put the link information there.

Veronica and Brian,

Check out http://www.library.ubc.ca/archives/database.html It's an overview of another university's experience in getting a similar project up and running.

Also, make sure to check out the actual link to the database.

UBC Photo Size --brian, 2003/06/18 06:17 EST
What did you think about the size of their thumbs? They're small but not bad better than I thought. The same with their main display. I think that titles and a little more infomation about the photo would be a little better. I also liked the idea of a "short" and "long" view on the results search screen.

http://digital-library.csun.edu/ This is the site where I got table of metadata. Their whole site is pretty weak but I like the concept of see all the metadata with the display. It's just that their display is too large.

I think the size of their photos is pretty good.

I really liked all of the data they included. In this way, it serves both the public and the repository. I also think they did a good job with the document scanning (as opposed to visual images). I like that the database includes photos and documents.

I really like this one. They've done a lot. I like the thumbs, the data, and I like the "order this photograph" feature. And all the images are protected by Digimarc

http://www.cthistoryonline.org/browse.htm#Subject I read the background on this and I believe they spent a lot of money ($100,000) on this. They have MARC record access
