Current Issues
- John Briggs' class uploading theses; may do it Dec. 19
- Help pages available for registering and uploading to DSpace? on library website; includes info on being an administrator
- Administrator function? Library should not have to get involved in every step of the process
- For students, it's only filling out a form; but what about the metadata
- What is value of sharing information?
- Workflow issues... can people only submit electronically?
- Make it a requirement for course? Depends on faculty member
- Stevens - "recruit" a small subset at a time; use EDD cohort as a sample to get a decent workflow; graduate council needs to be involved
- Students prepare material for electronic submission; EDD advisor is administrator?
- Protecting content? publishing abstract only with password access to actual file; should library or repository still have full text? need to create list of possibilities
Action plans
- Get education department on board
Jenny sends note to Marcy D. and cc Stevens to schedule workshop/demo for appropriate people to get her on board with requiring an electronic copy of the dissertation and to bring that to grad council
- Get graduate office/grad council on board
Marcy D. take proposal to grad council
- Brian K. to talk to Chris Shankle
- Veronica will call Ellen D.
Workflow possibilities:
- paper submission process until last step - performed by grad office
- student submits BOTH paper and electronic; part of their responsibility is to describe it/create metadata
- someone in grad office does "quality control"
- someone in library does metadata control

From 12/4 e-mail:
Jenny, It would be a good idea to schedule a session for learning about how dissertations will be submitted. Please invite Karen Burke, myself, Ellen Durnin, Kay Campbell, and Ed Duncanson. Marcy

Chis Shankel on board now, too --stevensb, Wed, 05 Dec 2007 14:55:28 -0500 reply
I sent Marcy Delcourt a reply, too. I suggested we meet in the intersession. If she's amenable to that we should put together a list of potential meeting times and circulate it to the group.
So far, our group for this meeting is shaping up to include all of us, Chris Shankle, Marcy Delcourt, Karen Burke, Kay Campbell , Ed Duncanson , Karen Burke , Ellen Durnin, and Ed O'Hara.
We can structure the meeting like this: We would like to do a beta test of our West-Collections with this 2008 EDD class.
The meeting could touch on the following issues:
- Reiterate what West-Coll's benefits are - Show them how West-Coll works - Show expamples of what we've already done with West-Colls. - Show them a sample work flow that we will implement for EDD - Answer questions
