Checklist for LinkSource Trials and Customers
This checklist is designed to assist in the definition of the LinkSource link menu. By defining the target products and services that should be on the LinkSource menu, and how they should be controlled for display, configuring the LinkSource menu is easy.
LinkSource is EBSCO's proprietary OpenURL compliant link resolver. LinkSource is a powerful way to access content related to an article and is an extension of EBSCO's SmartLinks? and CustomLinks? technologies.
The LinkSource menu is comprised of EBSCO SmartLinks? and CustomLinks? content.
Setting Up SmartLinks?
Based on a your subscription to any of the following services, EBSCO extends access to full text as follows:
- Links to full text on EBSCOhost? from non full-text databases.
- Links to electronic full text from EBSCOhost? Electronic Journals
- Links to full text available through CrossRef?.
If you have a subscription to any of the services mentioned above, and opt to enable SmartLinks?, then links to the same content will appear on the LinkSource menu. Content on the LinkSource menu is available to any OpenURL compliant product that has been configured to link to LinkSource.

CustomL?inks (previously referred to as ILS links)
CustomLinks?, also referred to as ILS Links, can be defined for any service that accepts linking to content via a URL. CustomLi?nks can appear on the Result List, Detail Display and/or the LinkSource menu. Each link supports elements that can be customized, as well as controlled for display.
It is important to define what types of services you wish to appear as part of the LinkSource menu. LinkSource can link to many web-based resources. Typical resources include OPACs?, document delivery services, inter-library loan vendors, online information services, aggregated full text databases and search engines. For a complete list of resources with documented URL masks, go to http://www.linkresolver.com/lstargets.doc.
For each link on the LinkSource menu, there are elements that require customization for each link. Customization is as follows:
Link Menu Order - The numerical order in which the link will appear on the LinkSource menu, Result List and Detail Display (as applicable). SmartLinks? will appear first.
Link URL Mask - The base URL mask of the service. If unknown, describe the service in text.
Link Text - What link text will display on the Result List, Detail Display or LinkSource menu.
Mouse-Over Text -The text that will display when the end-user mouses-over the link.
Link Icon - The URL of the icon to display to indicate the service. If left blank, the default LinkSource icon will display.
Display on Result - Display instruction
Display on Display - Display instruction
Display on LS menu - Instructions to display the link on the LinkSource menu
