Overview
What problem(s) are we trying to solve?
There are two main issues we are trying to address with this review:
- Efficiency and ease of selecting and submitting orders to acquisitions
- Turnaround time required to get items in the library
The acquisitions process can be broken in to five distinct, yet interconnected, processes; selection, ordering, cataloging, material processing and feedback to selectors and users.
Steps in the Review
As we look at each of these processes individually we also want to keep in mind the best way (if any) to integrate these processes. We will be looking at:
- tools, or information technology that can be employed to enhance or reduce the burden of each of these processes?;
- the benefits / downsides of "out-sourcing" all or part(s) of each process?;
- are there steps in our current practice that we can eliminate all together? definitely
