MINUTES AND DISCUSSION

  1. Server upgrade
    • The III server is now at CSU and is being configured
    • Theresa (Ebenhoe - System office) is now an official contact with III
    • The CSU directors have not negotiated a contract for the software upgrade, so the server migration will take place first
    • To confirm: ssh will be necessary for access to character-based III with the new server, regardless of software upgrade
    • Steve Slovasky at the State Library may be willing to provide informal training on Mill acquisitions for our staff members, since the SL has been using Mill exclusively.
  2. Digital repositories
    • E-prints is up and running at CCSU
    • Edward suggested that CCSU will want to centralize many disparate collections in the not-too-distant future and asked if the group wanted to look at repository systems and metadata issues
    • Edward announced that Scott Zak at the system office may be interested in working with this group
    • It was agreed that the group should approach such a project from two angled: with the system office (Scott) and with a presentation to the Directors
    • The discussion was tabled until next meeting and we will try to use the wiki to communicate about the two main issues:
      1. metadata,
      2. selection of technology
    • We need to prioritize and make lists and answer the question: "what do we want to accomplish?"
  3. Electronic resource management
    • Brian mentioned North Carolina State product called E-matrix (they recently published their schema)
    • Again, it was agreed that we will start a page on the wiki to discuss and post information
  4. Loan rules
    • Edward report strange problems with patron type 227; unfortunately, no-one could solve them at the meeting
  5. State Library
    • We need to be sure that S. Slovasky is included in the systems librarians meetings

Sorry I missed the December 2 meeting. I haven't been watching this space but will in future. How much lead time do we expect between the conclusion of the server configuration and the end of telnet?

Thanks. Stephen Slovasky. Connecticut State Library
